Residential Design Excellence Award
Presented to Dick Clark Architecture
City View Residence
Austin, Texas
Project Description
This design was inspired by the clients’ desire to live in a house that reflects their environmentally responsible values and their socially extroverted lifestyle. The house takes an architecturally minimal approach with simple massing, an understated material palette, and large expanses of glass. Configured for entertainment, the glass box living area, along with large sliding doors from the dining and pool room invite guests outside onto the pool deck to take in the spectacular view of the Austin skyline. Visual spatial connections between public and private spaces were important to the client. Floating millwork elements, wood slat screens and open bookcases were used to connect and distinguish these spaces. The insulated glass with the deep overhangs minimized exposure to the Texas sun and spray foam was used to keep the heat out. Eco-Smart fireplaces and tankless water heaters reduce environmental impact while solar panels and rainwater collection utilize the resources the environment has to offer. Materials, such as recycled glass Terrazzo tile, cypress wood and concrete, were all sourced locally.
