Sustainability Honorable Mention
Presented to Corgan Associates, Inc.
CIGNA
Plano, Texas

Project Description

CIGNA Pointe is a new 213,000 GSF tilt-up, four story office building and is the first of many planned speculative and build-to-suit developments on a 42-acre site in Plano, Texas.

Our primary challenge was to consolidate several offices from around the area into one space, merging different work styles, space considerations, and personalities to cohesively express this in the Regional Headquarters in concert with CIGNA’s brand.  While many clients come to us struggling to find a sense of identity that relates to their physical space, CIGNA has a well defined brand image that we were tasked with incorporating. Our challenge was to honor and express their brand while creating a unique identity for this Regional Headquarters.

We set out to design a space that would provide the flexibility for different groups to perform various types of work independently while also allowing opportunities for collaboration.

In addition, we needed to craft an environment that would reflect CIGNA’s values as a company and ultimately improve the quality of service for their clients and quality of life for their employees. Sustainable considerations for this project include: protection and restoration of wildlife, promotion of alternative transportation, mitigation of heat island effect, water efficient landscaping and water use reduction, energy performance optimization, green power, construction waste management, use of recycled content, rapidly renewable and regional materials, thermal comfort design and optimization of daylight and views. The project is pursuing LEED Silver certification.

Judges Comments:

  • a clean, well planned regional headquarters
  • the bamboo features add warmth to the neutral spaces
  • doesn't appear to be overtly green, still looks like a corporate office
